City awarded $600,000 DOLA grant for additional improvements to North Avenue

Improvement work on North Avenue that is slated to get underway this fall just got a boost with the announcement of an additional $600,000 for the project. The City of Grand Junction has been awarded a $600,000 Department of Local Affairs Energy and Mineral Impact Assistance grant for the North Avenue Complete Streets project. The funds will augment the $1.2 million Federal Transportation Community and System Preservation Program grant previously received for improvements to North Avenue from 12th Street to 23rd Street, including 8-foot wide detached sidewalks, median improvements, landscaping, lighting, and street furniture.

The North Avenue Owners’ Association, along with the property and business owners on North Avenue, is eagerly awaiting the project. The improvements will provide a cohesive framework and create a unique identity for the North Avenue business district, and serve as a catalyst to revitalize this important commercial corridor.
