Colo. Lottery honors C’dale

The Colorado Lottery on Tuesday awarded Carbondale the 2014 Starburst Community Award, recognizing excellence in the use of lottery proceeds for community projects.

Last year, Carbondale used a $45,000 lottery-funded Great Outdoors Colorado grant to help create the Third Street Carbondale Community Partnership Garden. The new community garden is located at the southern edge of the Third Street Center and contains about 40 garden plots.

The GOCO grant was used entirely to purchase and install a submersible irrigation pump and piping system that will bring nonpotable water from a nearby ditch to the garden. Local gardeners can sign up and tend their own plots while becoming a part of the greater gardening community by sharing their knowledge and experience.
