Enjoy award-winning wine at Mesa County Fair Friday

Enjoy Mesa County Fair’s inaugural Wine Tasting Event on Friday, July 18, from 6-8 p.m.

Colorado wines will be served at Mesa County Fairgrounds’ gazebo, including winners from the fair’s 2014 Commercial Winemakers Competition (judged in a blind tasting on June 28 at Grand Junction’s Fairfield Inn by Marriott). Entry to the wine tasting costs $20 per person over the age of 21 and includes general fair admission.

According to a Mesa County Fair news release, 66 Colorado wines competed in this year’s June contest. Grand Junction’s Mesa Park Vineyards was awarded double-gold for its 2012 Cabernet Franc. Medal count included one double-gold medal, along with seven gold medals, 25 silver medals and 27 bronze medals. All but 20 entries came from producers located in the Grand Valley.

“All commercial winemakers in Colorado were invited to compete,” the news release continued. “Each entry was required to have 75 percent of its ingredients grown in Mesa County.
