Fleet owners invited to discuss CNG fueling station in Glenwood Springs
The Refuel Colorado Fleets project is inviting owners of vehicle fleets to attend a meeting, “Glenwood Springs CNG Station: Getting Down to Business,” on building a compressed natural gas (CNG) public fueling station in the city.

Presenters will include Mike Ogburn, energy engineer for CLEER: Clean Energy Economy for the Region, and Jennifer de Tapia, director of market development for Trillium CNG in Salt Lake City.
A panel of locals with CNG experience rounds out the program. They include Don Gerbaz of Berthod Motors, Eric Beutz of Columbine Ford, Rego Omerigic of the White River National Forest, John Moore of SourceGas, Kenny Osier of RFTA and Peter Tijm for the Glenwood Springs Chamber.
Trillium CNG designs, builds and operates CNG fueling stations in dozens of locations across the country. The company has already been awarded a $100,000 grant from Garfield County and the city of Glenwood Springs, after submitting a proposal to add a CNG dispenser to the Shell gasoline station in West Glenwood.
But Trillium CNG also needs commitments from a sufficient number of future CNG customers in order to invest the balance of the $1 million cost of installing a fueling station and compressor facility in Glenwood Springs.
The meeting is targeted at fleet owners that are based in or drive through Glenwood Springs and will provide information on the advantages of CNG, in order to build interest in purchasing new CNG or bi-fuel vehicles.
“CNG presents significant return on investment through low fuel costs, and it’s a domestic fuel with much lower price volatility than gasoline or diesel,” said Ogburn.
At public CNG stations in Rifle, Parachute and Grand Junction, the fuel is selling for about $1.30 less per gallon of gasoline equivalent (GGE) than gasoline. CNG is best suited for pickup trucks, large vans and medium-duty trucks.
For a business with a 3/4-ton pickup getting 11 MPG, the higher cost of a CNG vehicle pays back in 50,000 to 70,000 miles and then saves up to $1,300 for every 10,000 miles thereafter, according to CLEER. Tax credits are also available.
The Refuel Colorado Fleets program also offers free energy coaching to vehicle fleet owners to help them analyze their fleet operations, calculate life-cycle cost savings, calculate return-on-investment from alternative fuels, plan a CNG replacement schedule and take advantage of tax credits and vehicle financing.
