The owner of Shooters Grill in Rifle has opened a new restaurant at the Rifle Creek Golf Course called Putters Pub & Steakhouse.

But don’t expect to see the staff packing heat, as they famously do at Shooters.

These servers are wearing black slacks and dress shirts in keeping with a “finer dining” theme of the restaurant.

“We don’t want to call it ‘fine dining,’ because we still want people to come in, even if they’re in jeans,” said Lauren Boebert, owner of the restaurant. “We welcome everyone — whether they have been golfing or just want to stop by and eat.”

Boebert’s first restaurant, Shooters Grill, located in downtown Rifle, shot to fame when the Post Independent reported in June that she allowed — even encouraged — her servers to carry weapons while on duty, and had the same policy for customers.

The notion made nationwide news, and her business has remained brisk, still occasionally drawing reporters catching up with the story.

But this restaurant is different.

Shooters Grill does not serve alcohol, but Putters does. And although it is still legal for servers to open carry a gun, Boebert said she is not promoting it.

According to Rifle Police Chief John Dyer, carrying a gun while serving liquor is legal, as long as the server is not intoxicated.

“They can carry a weapon, but they cannot be intoxicated,” Dyer said.

Boebert isn’t looking for the same attention Shooters got. But she does have plans for expansion.

She intends to open another Shooters Grill in Colorado, and also plans to build one in Utah.

“We’re definitely going to do Moab,” Boebert said.

Boebert and her husband, Jayson Boebert, will run the restaurants together.

Putters will have approximately 20 employees and is open to the public and is available for special occasions. For more information, call 970-625-2894.
