Mary Margaret O’Gara has given a lot to the community. She’s worked for Aspen Valley Hospital for more than 30 years, where she currently serves as diabetes education coordinator, and helps her husband, Steve Standiford, run Steve’s Guitars in downtown Carbondale.

Now, O’Gara has cancer, and the community is helping give back for all those years of music and patient, kind care.

KDNK will be donating the profits from it’s annual “C Town” variety show, 8 p.m. on Feb. 20 at Steve’s, to her medical expenses.

“Anything we can do to help,” KDNK general manager Steve Skinner said. “Steve’s been great to this community and Mary Margaret’s a big part of Steve’s Guitars. We support each other.”

Some other acts have talked about donating the take at Steve’s, and her friends at Aspen Valley Hospital are planning a fundraiser at the Orchard in April. A fund has also been set up at Alpine Bank in her name.

“We are very optimistic that our feisty Irish fighter will be able to kick this disease,” Standiford said. “Please send out your love and prayers for her winning this battle.”
