Grand Avenue bridge night work canceled due to weather
Overnight work to continue the placement of steel girders on the new Grand Avenue bridge has been canceled for Monday night due to the weather. There will be no nighttime detour affecting Interstate 70 until the work resumes, according to project officials.
Construction work using cranes to place the girders is contingent on weather and wind speeds of less than 15 mph for safety reasons.
“Our team has decided to cancel tonight’s westbound I-70 night detour for the safety of our crews,” Tom Newland, public information manager for the project, said.
The westbound I-70 night detours onto Sixth Street are tentatively rescheduled for 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. However, if bad weather persists, an additional nighttime detour may be needed on Friday, Newland said.
The Grand Avenue Bridge will also be closed all three nights starting at 8 p.m., meaning Colorado 82 traffic will need to take Midland Avenue and Eighth Street to and from I-70 Exit 114 in West Glenwood.
Eastbound I-70 traffic will not be impacted, however full I-70 night detours are tentatively rescheduled for the week of Feb. 27. The GAB Facebook page will have daily project updates.
