Want a fun way to run off extra Thanksgiving pounds?

Why not sign up for Grand Junction’s Jingle Bell Run at Canyon View Park Saturday, Dec. 7. It kicks off at Canyon View Park’s baseball shelter.

The 5K run/walk starts at 9 a.m. Pre-registration costs $24, or $30 the day of the event.

The Kids 1K run/walk follows at 10 a.m. Pre-registration costs $19, or $25 on-site.

All runners and walkers will receive a long-sleeve shirt. Participants are also encouraged to wear red and green clothing, Santa hats and jingle bells.

“Santa comes out and you can chase him around the 1K loop,” said Pete Ashman, GJ’s recreation coordinator.

Though the Jingle Bell Run is primarily an athletic event for the community, it’s also a pet-food drive for Roice-Hurst Humane Society.

“Let’s take care of some of the animals at the holidays,” Ashman said. “At the event, people can bring pet food, toys, treats, collars, leashes and kitty litter.”

Roice-Hurst will be at the race to accept donations, and there will be a raffle there as well.

To pre-register for the Jingle Bell Run, call Parks and Rec at 970-254-3866 or register online at http://www.gjcity.org.
