Maroon Bells bus service to start
The Aspen and Sopris Ranger Districts of the White River National Forest have announced that the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority will resume summer bus service to the Maroon Bells Scenic Area beginning Saturday. Concurrent with the resumption of RFTA bus service, motorized travel on the Maroon Bells Road is restricted.
“We are excited for another summer season and to celebrate this beautiful scenic area with the public,” said Peggy Jo Trish, Maroon Bells Area Manager for the Aspen and Sopris Districts.
Maroon Bells bus service will originate from Aspen Highlands. All day users will be required to take the bus between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. The cost for the bus is $6 per person for adults and $4 for seniors and children ages 6 to 16. Children younger than 6 ride free. Bus tickets may be obtained at several locations in Aspen and Aspen Highlands Village. Additional information about bus services and ticket sales can be found at http://www.rfta.com.
There are some exceptions to the motorized travel restrictions on the Maroon Bells Road: access to the campgrounds for overnight stays, use by high-occupancy vehicles with 11 or more passengers, travel by people with disabilities and transportation of horses to trailhead parking areas. Permits are required for vehicle access to the Maroon Bells Scenic Area and are available at the Maroon Bells Welcome Station.
Silver Bar, Bell and Queen campgrounds are open with full services on a first-come, first-served basis at a cost of $15 per night. The campgrounds, as well as the East Maroon Group Portal Picnic Area, can be reserved by going to http://www.recreation.gov.
