Kitchen fire knocked down in Glenwood

An apartment’s kitchen caught fire on Thursday night at 2423 Meadowlark Lane, located next to Rivers Restaurant.

A Glenwood Springs news release Friday said crews encountered heavy smoke conditions upon arrival and called for mutual aid assistance.

The fire, which was suppressed quickly, primarily affected one condominium unit, but two neighboring units, above and below where the fire started, sustained smoke and water damage.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation Friday.

A resident from the complex, which has no fire alarm system in place, took quick action to report the fire to 911 and assured that neighbors safely evacuated. All have found shelter with family and friends.

Mutual aid was provided by Colorado River Fire Rescue, which responded with a ladder truck and a Battalion unit.  Carbondale and Rural Fire Protection District responded with an engine and engine company.
