Paraglider missing in Flat Tops found injured

Garfield County Search and Rescue retrieved a missing paraglider Saturday afternoon after he went missing the previous evening.

Mitchell Stubbs, 26, left his camp north of Deep Lake at about 11 a.m. Friday to go paragliding, the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office reported Monday.

By 11:30 p.m. that day he had not returned, and authorities were alerted.

Garfield County Search and Rescue and a search helicopter were called in. At about 1:16 p.m. Saturday, the helicopter spotted a parachute on the ground. Search and Rescue members made their way to the location while the helicopter found a suitable place to land.

Stubbs suffered injuries to his abdomen and was flown to Valley View Hospital at about 2:10 p.m.
