A Roaring Fork School District board seat has opened up after Daniel Biggs announced last week that he will be moving out of his Glenwood Springs director district and will have to step down.
Biggs is in his fifth year on the school board, after he was unopposed for re-election in the November 2015 general election. He won the Director District D seat in 2011 over then-incumbent board member Myles Rovig.
District D takes in all of West Glenwood and the neighborhoods north of the Colorado River in the vicinity of the Hotel Colorado, as well as the Red Mountain neighborhoods along Midland Avenue, and most of core downtown area.
According to RFSD Superintendent Diana Sirko, the board must appoint someone to fill the vacancy in the next 60 days. This person will serve the next 17 months of the term until November 2017, when the seat will be up for election.
Applications are due by May 25, and interviews will be conducted by the school board from 3-5 p.m. on June 1.
Those interested in applying can visit the district website at http://www.rfsd.k12.co.us to access the link regarding board vacancies under the “Featured” announcements.
