Musgrave named ranking GOP member on ag subcommittee

DENVER (AP) ” Rep. Marilyn Musgrave, R-Colo., said Thursday she has been named a member of the Subcommittee on Specialty Crops, Rural Development and Foreign Agriculture, where she will be the ranking GOP member.

She said the subcommittee’s work will include helping prepare the 2007 farm bill.

“For residents of rural Colorado, I am particularly interested in subcommittee’s oversight on rural development and biotechnology policies because my district contains so many small towns and two state universities,” she said.

She represents Colorado’s 4th Congressional District, which includes Colorado State University in Fort Collins and the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.

The subcommittee’s jurisdiction includes the Agriculture Department’s rural development programs, biotechnology policies, such specialty crops as sugar, tobacco, and peanuts, and other issues.
