RIFLE — A new wildfire is burning not far from the Ward Gulch Fire northeast of Rifle, a Garfield County spokesperson confirmed Thursday evening.

Few details are available, but the fire is thought to be in the area known as Horse Mountain north of Rifle Gap State Park. The last remaining helicopter fighting the Ward Gulch Fire, which is fully contained, has been diverted to dump water on the new blaze.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
