New Peregrine Landing senior living facility is taking shape
A new option for senior assisted living and memory care in Glenwood Springs, now under construction at the former Sunlight Racquet Club site next to the 27th Street roundabout, is expected to come online with a full memory care facility in May and a long reservation list in anticipation of a mid-September opening for the assisted living section.
Peregrine Landing at Glenwood Springs, operated by Syracuse, New York-based Peregrine Senior Living, will feature 60 assisted living units, including several overlooking the Roaring Fork River, plus 32 units in the memory care facility, according to Danie Monaghan, corporate director of marketing for the company.
Monaghan has temporarily relocated to Glenwood Springs to help oversee the construction project and line up future residents.
“We are actively taking reservations and deposits, and have more than we anticipated at this time,” she said.
Half of the 32 memory care units will be private and the other half are shared units. The facility very likely will be full by the time it opens in mid-May, Monaghan said.
To qualify for the memory care facility, a resident needs to have a diagnosed cognitive disorder, she explained. For assisted living, couples or singles need only a physician’s advice that assisted living would benefit their living situation.
Most of the assisted living units on the second floor are already reserved, and the list is growing for the remainder of the units, Monaghan said.
“Resident needs will vary,” she said. “Some will need full care, up to and including hospice care.”
Staffing of the facility will depend on those varying needs, she said, but is expected to include full-time nursing staff, caregivers and medication aides, as well as designated physicians to serve the facility, she said.
“It really depends on the acuity of the residents at any given time,” Monaghan said. “If they have a lot of needs, we will have a much more fully staffed facility.”
Peregrine operates 13 senior living facilities around the country, and Peregrine Landing at Glenwood Springs will be the second in Colorado. The other is in Aurora, and operators are looking at other locations in the state, including on the Western Slope, Monaghan said.
“We are a private pay community,” she said, explaining that Peregrine does not accept Section 8 housing vouchers, Medicaid or Medicare. It will accept long-term care insurance, as well as qualifying Veterans Aid and Attendance, she said.
Costs will range from $5,300 per month up to about $14,500, depending on needs of the resident. That includes three meals a day, snacks, weekly housekeeping, transportation, on-site social activities and spiritual services.
“We will work with people and go through their assets to see what they can reasonably afford,” Monaghan said.
Peregrine also supports residents who have pets, and often will have community pets at their facilities.
The Glenwood Springs facility will include a dining room overlooking the Roaring Fork River and a wrap-around porch. Other amenities include an indoor fitness center, billiards and other games, an indoor theater for movie watching, and a chapel with stained glass windows and both denominational and nondenominational services.
The memory care unit will have an enclosed courtyard, and will offer full memory care services plus aromatherapy, touch therapy, balance and awareness classes, yoga and Tai Chi classes.
The entire facility will have landscaped grounds with walkways and, according to schematic plans, a staircase down to the riverfront Atkinson Trails, she said.
