Oil and gas task force convenes in Rifle this week
The governor’s Oil and Gas Task Force will be meeting today and Thursday at the Farm Fresh Cafe, 1733 Railroad Ave., in Rifle.
Included will be a formal public comment period from 5 to 7 p.m. today.
The meeting agenda during the day will include a panel discussion on “Perspectives from the Piceance Basin” with local government and citizen group representatives starting at 10:25 a.m.
Mineral owners will speak to takings issues and other issues related to royalties at 12:15 p.m., followed by task force discussions on the various issues from 2:15-4:45 p.m., followed by public comment.
The Thursday agenda includes a discussion beginning at 8 a.m. regarding public health and safety concerns around oil and gas activity, followed by more task force discussion until noon.
The 21-member Oil and Gas Task Force was established by Gov. John Hickenlooper to study and recommend regulatory solutions to issues such as well setbacks and local land-use controls.
Audio of the meeting will be streamed live and a link for listening will be available on the Colorado Department of Natural Resources’ Oil and Gas Task Force website during the two-day meeting.
