Orchard event to get clean water to Haiti

CARBONDALE — An international relief organization, in partnership with local organizers, is putting on an event from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at The Gathering Center at the Orchard, to benefit “victims of natural disasters in the U.S., and also those threatened by the dangers of unclean water in Haiti.”

The relief organization is Poured Out, and according to its website it is currently working mainly in Haiti, where a lack of clean water continues to threaten the native population nearly four years after an earthquake devastated the island nation on Jan. 12, 2010.

According to a statement from local organizers Kara Montie and Lynn Jammaron, the event on Saturday will be “family friendly” and will feature live music, appetizers by the Allegria restaurant in Carbondale (one of the sponsors), a Haitian gift shop, and a Kids Corner for young attendees.

To raise money for Poured Out, organizers are charging entry fees of $5 for kids, $10 for adults and $30 for families.

For more information contact Montie at kara.montie@gmail.com or Jammaron at ljamagency@gmail.com.

The Gathering Center is located at 110 Snowmass Drive in Carbondale.
