Railroad improvement project under way
Work has begun on a $20.5 million improvement project on the Union Pacific Railroad between Palisade and Dotsero.
The railroad will replace 141,300 railroad ties, install 53,000 tons of rock ballast and replace more than 3 miles of rail in various curves. In addition, crews will repair the surfaces at 40 road crossings.
The project will require Amtrak to reroute passenger service through the area through southern Wyoming from May 16-22 and June 1-8.
Paid for entirely by Union Pacific, the work is scheduled to be completed by the end of July.
