Re-2 modifies calendar options

Following extensive community feedback, Garfield School District Re-2 has made several modifications to its potential calenders for 2015-16 and 2016-17 and is again soliciting community comment.

Collaborative Solutions, the negotiating arm of Re-2, examined more than 500 responses to its first drafts, and responded to a range of concerns, most prevalent of which was school starting too early.

Both calender options now begin school on Aug. 17 and mostly keep to the current four-day week. Option one echoes the current calender, completing school in late May, blocking off a three day break for Thanksgiving, and a standard week for Spring Break. Option two runs through early June, includes an extra break in February, and brings students into school on Friday twice in the 2016-17 school year.

Collaborative Solutions will meet again on March 6, so parents, staff and community members are encouraged to provide feedback by March 5. To review the calendars or comment, visit
