Rifle man collapses, dies of unknown causes

RIFLE — A Rifle resident died of unknown causes at shortly after midnight on Thursday morning, after suffering apparently minor facial cuts and scrapes and breaking into screams at the intersection of Third Street and Railroad Avenue, according to the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office.

According to sheriff’s deputy Walt Stowe, public information officer for the department, the Rifle Police Department responded to the call and found the man, identified as Rifle resident Anthony Green, already screaming before he fell silent and collapsed.

An ambulance was called and life-saving measures were initiated, Stowe reported, but Green was taken to the Grand River Hospital and pronounced dead at 1:15 a.m.

No further information was released about the incident on Thursday afternoon.
