With the new school year only a few days away, it’s time for a fitting event to end summer vacation — the Rocky Mountain PBS Healthy Kids Fun Fest.

This event for your family, free to the public, and geared toward children ages 2-10 is planned for Saturday, Aug. 10, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Lincoln Park.

“Kids Fun Fest is our largest event on the Western Slope,” Rocky Mountain PBS development account executive Ryan Stringfellow said. “It essentially is a huge community thank you for making Rocky Mountain PBS part of western Colorado. Hosting this year’s event at Lincoln Park will keep it family-friendly and accessible for the whole community. Along with our community, we really appreciate our title sponsors Rocky Mountain Health Plans and Delta Dental for their support and for their commitment to community support.”

In the event’s eight years in Grand Junction, Healthy Kids Fun Fest has become a community staple on the Western Slope. Sponsored by Rocky Mountain Health Plans and Delta Dental, as well as seven participating sponsors, the event will encompass over 20 community booths with activities for children that range from face painting and crafts to learning how to budget money. Two separate bouncy castles, a clown and a magician will also be present at the event along with activities at each booth.

A coloring contest will take place with five winners — each from a different age group — winning a gift basket filled with a variety of different prizes. Two lucky families will win big if their registration is randomly chosen for one of the two gift baskets filled with various prizes ranging from books to gift cards donated by local restaurants

Event-goers will also be able to see beloved PBS characters Super Why! and Curious George come to life as they interact with kids during the event.

Healthy Kids Fun Fest will also have a stage and DJ with performances by Absolute Dance and a special story time with Curious George. Along with the stage, food concessions will be available by Pablo’s Pizza of Fruita.

According to Rocky Mountain PBS, the eighth annual Healthy Kids Fun Fest is expecting to engage more than 1,500 families and kids from all over the Western Slope.

Rocky Mountain PBS will also have four comfort stations, offering cups of water, sunscreen and antibacterial gel.
