Saturday last day for recycling center
The final day of operations for the recycle center at 1015 School St. in Glenwood Springs is Saturday. The city is in the process of handing the property over to the Roaring Fork School District as part of a land swap to accommodate the Glenwood Springs Elementary School renovation.
The recycle bins at the existing facility will be relocated to the South Canyon Landfill, west of Glenwood Springs on Garfield County Road 134.
The existing recycling facilities there will be expanded starting March 1, with longer hours and more days than the in-city location provided. Hours will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
To access the landfill from Glenwood Springs, take Interstate 70 west to Exit 111 (South Canyon), then turn left onto County Road 134. The landfill entrance is 1.3 miles from the interchange.
The landfill recycling center will accept electronic waste, aluminum and steel cans, glass bottles, plastics No. 1-7, newspapers, junk mail, cardboard and slick paper products.
City officials are exploring possible options to re-establish an in-town recycling facility in the future.
In the meantime, contact the landfill recycle center at 970-945-5375.
