Services planned for GSHS grad Mirimar Arvizo

Staff Report

Mirimar Arvizo, who graduated from Glenwood Springs High School this past spring, died Friday after an 18-month battle with abdominal cancer. She was 18.

Arvizo, who underwent treatment for cancer for much of her senior year at GSHS, also underwent surgery and treatment at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital in New York. Arvizo’s former teacher, Mary Hinkey, said in an email that Arvizo remained positive throughout the treatment process.

“She cared more about how everyone else was doing, never dwelling on her own challenges,” Hinkey said. “She was a true warrior. Mirimar touched the hearts of everyone she came in contact with and will be greatly missed.”

A visitation will be held at Farnum Holt Funeral Home from noon to 9 p.m. today. There will be two services, one at 2 p.m. with Father Jose Maria officiating, and the other at 7 p.m. with Pastor Reuben officiating. Contributions can be made to Marimar Arvizo Account at Alpine Bank.

Those who plan to attend the service, or services, are asked to wear pink in honor of Arvizo.
