Starting today, weather permitting, the Grand Avenue bridge project contractor will be working from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays for the next several weekends.

The weekend work in necessary to keep pace with the construction schedule, especially with delays caused by the recent snowfall that has disrupted the truck hauling operation for construction of the south causeway, a construction platform in the Colorado River, according to project officials.

The contractor is working to meet a March 1 deadline to complete the causeway ahead of the fish spawning season.

Looking ahead to next week, the Grand Avenue bridge itself will be reduced to one lane in each direction between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. for four days, Monday through Thursday. This is to allow for the removal of trees below the bridge and on the southeast corner of Sixth and Grand, bridge officials said in their weekly construction update.
