Workshop unveils summer hike schedule
The Wilderness Workshop has announced its 2013 summer hike schedule, which this year will focus on the Thompson Divide and proposed wilderness areas.
The free series kicks off with a hike into the Thompson Divide via the Perham Creek Trail, on Saturday, and a birding hike into the Hay Park proposed wilderness addition, at the base of Mount Sopris, on Sunday.
All told, there will be 20 outings, most of them on Saturdays or Sundays. The series includes backcountry destinations throughout the Roaring Fork and Eagle valleys, along with a few in Summit County. There’s a full-moon hike on Aug. 20, and an overnight camping trip to end the series on Sept. 28-29.
The full hike schedule is available at http://www.wildernessworkshop.org/hikes. All hikes are free, but participants must register in advance, either online or by calling Wilderness Workshop at 970-963-3977.
