Lost biker in good condition

A Glenwood Springs man is reported to be in good condition after he became lost while riding a mountain bike near County Road 245 at the Cherry Creek trailhead near New Castle.

Brian Magee, 25, was riding his bicycle up the trail late Monday afternoon when he turned up Mansfield Creek, but missed the turn that would have taken him back to Cherry Creek, a Garfield County Sheriff’s news release said.

He wound up on Last Chance Trail, continuing to walk and ride the bicycle through the night, trying to make his way down Deep Creek while resting periodically.

By 8:45 a.m. Thursday, he made it to a ranch on County Road 243 and the base of Clinetop Mesa Road.

Meanwhile, Garfield County Search and Rescue personnel gathered to look for Magee.

But soon after their search began, Magee was able to phone a friend from the ranch, telling the friend to let rescue personnel know he was all right. The ranch owner, Mark Jackson, then drove Magee to a search and rescue staging area.
