Lovins amuses Moolick

Dear Editor,

I was amused that Amory Lovins was assigned a half page on the first day of Spring, titled “My Side,” to respond to my letter of March 11 concerning the “Old Snowmass National Energy Policy.”

Their vision is an energy system that “will not run out, cannot be cut off, supports a vibrant economy and safeguards our health and environment.”

Lovins contends that their National Energy Policy’s “report shows how to meet the nation’s security, economic and environmental needs simultaneously and without compromise.” Could he please explain to those of us who are unenlightened how this will be accomplished!

He says, “This approach is neither liberal nor conservative, dogmatic nor divisive; rather, it is national, integrative, balanced, market-oriented, science-based, innovative, pragmatic, profitable, and uniting.”

I find this whole thing scary, because there appears to be a suggestion that it will be necessary to die and go to Heaven to achieve this “Lovins dream.”

I went to my bookcase and got out my old battered copy of Louis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland.” Sure enough, I could sense the same clarity of purpose in both writers. It certainly suggested that the Ding-a-ling Era is still alive and prospering. Remember, even our SUN will someday die from lack of energy!

Sincerely yours,

R.T. Moolick
