Luis Angel Quintero

Luis Angel Quintero of Rifle died Thursday, April 8, 2004, at Children’s Hospital in Denver. He was 12.

A funeral Mass was held Wednesday, April 14, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rifle. A Rosary was said the evening before at the church.

Luis was born Dec. 24, 1991, in Sinaloa, Mexico, to Veronica Medrano and Luis Quintero. He spent his early childhood in Mexico and moved to Rifle in 2001.

At the time of his death, he was a sixth-grader and excelled in computers and writing. A story that Luis wrote about his childhood in Mexico and then moving to Rifle won first prize in a school writing contest.

He loved to play soccer and dreamed of becoming a soccer star one day.

Luis is survived by his parents; by a sister, Citlali, 9; by a brother, Fernando, 2; by grandparents Francisco and Maria Medrano of Chihuahua, Mexico, and Emilio and Francisca Quintero of Sinaloa, Mexico; and by many aunts, uncles, cousins and school friends.

Cochran Memorial Chapels is in charge of arrangements.
