Magical childhood moments and mayhem highlight productions

From New Castle to Carbondale, the stage is set for two community plays this weekend.On Friday and Saturday, the Church at Carbondale presents “Mayhem in Mayville,” a whodunit comedy set in a fictitious small town that appears to be like any other. But on Feb. 14, 1985, life in little Mayville takes a mysterious turn.The shenanigans begin at Mayville hangout Connie’s Cup O’ Coffee, when the diner’s owner spots a pair of legs protruding from under a table. Diner regulars and Inspector McBride collaborate to solve the strange crime. Mayville secrets come uncovered amid the investigation as regulars become suspects and the inspector seeks out the audience’s assistance to crack the case.The dinner theater event takes place at 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Church at Carbondale, 110 Snowmass Drive. The $15 advance tickets, which include Connie’s blue-plate special dinner and the play, are available by calling 963-8773.Also taking center stage this weekend is the Garden School’s production of “Anne of Green Gables,” based on the novel by L.M. Montgomery. Students will bring the story about the red-haired, freckled orphan to life at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday at the New Castle school.
