Mahir Jalili

Mahir Jalili died Thursday, Aug. 24, at age 61 after a brave and courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Jalili was a part-time resident of Aspen. Although he lived and worked in London and Chicago, he felt that Aspen was his real home. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; his niece, Julie Mercado; and his nephew, Maz Jalili. Mr. Jalili had a long and distinguished career as an international arbitrator, having his offices at the Inns of Court in London, England. He received a master’s degree in chemical engineering from the Colorado School of Mines, and his juris doctor from Loyola University of Chicago School of Law. After graduation from law school, he moved to London to practice international law and arbitration, where he qualified as a barrister. In 2001, he won a landmark case on behalf of a consortium of European contractors in the Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia.Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 28, at the Christ Episcopal Church in Aspen. Burial will follow in Red Butte Cemetery.Farnum-Holt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
