GLENWOOD SPRINGS – Police identified a 73-year-old Glenwood Springs man who was found dead in the Roaring Fork River Monday as David Denissen.

Denissen was found more than 30 feet from the shore of Veltus Park around 10 a.m. Monday, Glenwood Springs police chief Terry Wilson said.

“From what we understand, he had a ton of medications and he had some health issues,” Wilson said.

Garfield County Search and Rescue crews recovered the body.

During their investigation, police learned that Denissen couldn’t sleep overnight into Monday, so he went for a walk and wound up in the river.

The cause of death hasn’t yet been determined, but an autopsy was set for Tuesday, Wilson said. Police don’t suspect foul play.
