Man dies in rollover accident near Silt
SILT – A 36-year-old Silt man died Tuesday night when his vehicle rolled over south of Silt.Garfield County Deputy Coroner Tom Parks pronounced David Stamps dead at the scene of the accident on Mineota Estates Drive, according to a statement from the Colorado State Patrol. It was not clear from the statement whether Stamps was wearing a seat belt.Tara Stamps, 40, a passenger in Stamps’ 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor, was wearing a seat belt and was not injured in the crash, the statement said.Stamps was driving westbound on Mineota Estates Drive about 7:45 p.m. when the vehicle spun out of control, ran off the right side of the road, returned to the roadway and later rolled over two times, ejecting Stamps from the vehicle, the statement said.The car then ran off the left side of the road and collided with a telephone junction box. Stamps’ vehicle came to rest on its wheels off the left side of the roadway, according to the statement.The crash is still under investigation, but alcohol and excessive speed are being looked into as possible factors in the crash, the statement said.
