Man drowns in canyon

A 45-year-old Illinois man drowned in Glenwood Canyon in a rafting accident Saturday afternoon.The man was on a private rafting trip with several other people when their raft overturned near Interstate 70 mile marker 122, said Kurt Conrad, a patrol sergeant with the Garfield County sheriff’s department. Another raft picked up the other passengers but was unable to rescue the man.The sheriff’s department received a call on the accident at 4:12 p.m.Conrad said it’s unclear if the victim was wearing a life jacket.The man’s name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
