A 46-year-old Glenwood Springs man was found dead Monday morning on the shore of the Colorado River in Glenwood Springs.

Around 9 a.m., railroad workers discovered the body of Robert William Rogerson near the hot springs that flow into the south side of the river below the easternmost part of 7th Street.

“He was found on the bank,” Glenwood Springs police Lt. Lou Vallario said. “We’re assuming it was an accidental death.”

Police aren’t sure how Rogerson died. Vallario speculated that it could have been from exposure to the cold temperatures that blanketed the region overnight Sunday and into Monday.

Vallario also said there was no obvious trauma to Rogerson’s body.

“It got down to 7 degrees last night,” Vallario said.

An autopsy likely will be performed on Rogerson today to determine his cause of death.
