Man takes plea deal in West Glenwood murder case

GLENWOOD SPRINGS ” Early this afternoon, Jesus Hernandez de Jesus admitted to murdering his nephew at the Ponderosa Cabins in West Glenwood Springs.

Hernandez de Jesus, 33, entered a guilty plea to second-degree murder. He originally faced a charge of first-degree murder, plus a weapons violation for possessing a firearm after a previous offense.

Hernandez de Jesus was accused of shooting to death his 20-year-old nephew, Ricardo Navarrete Prudencio, on June 25 over an affair he had with Hernandez de Jesus’ wife in Florida.



With the second-degree murder plea, Hernandez de Jesus still faces 16 to 48 years in prison, five years parole, and possible fines of $5,000 to $1 million.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled for April 11.
