Many gov’t, bank closures on MLK Jr. holiday

Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a federal and state holiday, and most but not all local government offices, schools and banks will be closed.

It also means that Monday is a free-parking day in Aspen, so no one has to feed money to the meter stations prevalent throughout the city’s downtown core.

Only a handful of area government entities will keep their offices open on Monday. Garfield County offices will remain open for the holiday, as will those operated by the cities of Carbondale and Glenwood Springs.

All Aspen School District schools and offices will be closed. In the Roaring Fork School District, Re-1 schools and offices will recognize the holiday. Re-2 schools and offices will be open, but students will be off for the holiday.

Here’s a partial list of area closures, government and otherwise:

• All Pitkin County government offices.

• All offices of the towns of Basalt and Snowmass Village.

• Ninth Judicial District court and associated offices.

• Alpine Bank, U.S. Bank, Vectra Bank and Wells Fargo branches will be closed. Bank of Colorado branches will be open.

• U.S. Postal Service branches.
