Margaret Ruby Schambs

Margaret Ruby Schambs, of Parachute, Colo., died Thursday, June 6, 2002, at Mesa Vista Assisted Living in Parachute. She was 78.

She was born Oct. 23, 1924, in Dumfries, Scotland, to James Paterson and Annie Campbell. She spent her childhood in Dumfries and graduated from high school in Denver, Colo. She lived in Denver for 19 years and worked with developmentally disabled children. She lived in Grand Junction, Colo., for 12 years, and spent the last three years in Parachute.

She married Edward Andrew Schambs on March 12, 1945, in London. She was a member of the Scotish Military during World War II and received the Purple Heart. Her interests were in reading, listening to bagpipe music, and knitting.

She was preceded in death by her husband, and by daughter Thersea Ann Schambs, who died Dec. 24, 1969.

She is survived by daughters Grace and son-in-law Rick Warde, of Mesa, Colo., and Mary and son-in-law Kevin Kern, of Grand Junction; seven sisters; grandchildren John, Nicole, Eric, Dustin, Jason and Keegan; and her friends at Mesa Vista Assisted Living and Roaring Fork Hospice.
