Mark Allen Blackhurst

Mark Allen Blackhurst, 43, passed away July 4, 2006, in Colorado Springs. Mark was born Dec. 20, 1962, in Alamosa to Robert and Betty Dunn. He was later adopted by his mother’s second husband, Thomas E. Blackhurst. Most of his school years were in Carbondale, where he played basketball and ran track for Roaring Fork High School, before moving to Montrose his senior year. After high school, he returned to Carbondale, where he worked as a chef and carpenter, cooking for The Village Smithy, Poppycock’s and other area restaurants. He also spent time in Southeast Alaska with his family, as well as in Colorado Springs.Mark will be remembered by those who knew him as a kind-hearted, fun-loving, highly talented person, who would always go out of his way to help others. He is survived by his parents; siblings Mike Blackhurst, Kathy Cox, T. J. Blackhurst and Carl Blackhurst. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 10, at the Burlington Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Burlington. For information, please call (785) 399-2944.
