Marketplace is smoke and mirrors

Dear Editor,

The “house of cards” that is the Crystal River Marketplace continues to crumble with the recent confirmation that Target and Lowe’s are planning stores in Glenwood Springs. Even the most pro-developer folks in Carbondale must be wondering how they got snookered into believing that Target was coming to town.

On July 15, residents have the opportunity to bring some reality to this madness by voting “no” on the current smoke and mirrors plan. Citizens can require that a more reasonable plan for developing the property and paying for road improvements be brought forward.

This developer has consistently refused to negotiate, compromise, or consider community values. It is time for the public to tell him that we deserve better.
