Marketplace project stinks

Dear Editor,

Although I live outside Carbondale city limits, I am still impacted by the town’s votes and decisions.

The recent smear campaign in the papers by the Crystal River Marketplace has only confirmed my initial suspicions that this project, by these developers, stinks to high heaven. I’m not against commercial development, only this project and developers.

They do not have Carbondale’s best interest at heart.

Let’s get rid of this nasty vibe the Crystal River Marketplace has brought into our town and find a better developer who will bring in a project we can be proud of, perhaps one more based in reality!

As I finished a rough draft of this letter, I read that Target and Lowe’s were going to Glenwood. Figures! It was always preposterous to imagine Carbondale as a regional shopping center.

These developers were never going to get Target. They are in over their heads and want Carbondale to bail them out. We can get a much better development and developers.

Please vote “no” on this ill-conceived project. Let’s get a project that we can all support and be proud of.

Valerie Harriman
