Mary Ella Hoke

Mary Ella Hoke, 85, of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., died Jan. 6, 2008, at Hope Hospice in Fort Myers, Fla. She was born Aug. 25, 1922, in Owensboro, Ky., to Julian and Katie Belle (Duncan) Field.She married Robert Lyons Hoke Dec. 25, 1943. Mary Ella went to Indiana State University and also attended classes in Louisville, Ky., to obtain a medical technician degree. She was member of Tri Kappa Associates and the First United Methodist Church in La Porte, Ind., as well as a volunteer for Special Olympics Colorado. She was a wonderful, loving mom and a kind friend to many. She was a voracious reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles and Scrabble.She is survived by daughter Julie (David) Fite of Glenwood Springs; sons Michael (Suzanne) Hoke of La Porte, Mark (Margaret) Hoke of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Scott Hoke of Birmingham, Ala.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Special Olympics Colorado-Western Area, 410 17th St., Suite 200, Denver, CO 80202.A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
