Mary Ellen (Estes) Teufner

Mary Ellen (Estes) Teufner died April 27, 2011 at her home in New Castle, Colo.

She was born March 14, 1940 to Jake and Chlora (Connolly) Estes in Junction City, Kan. She was a loving mother to Michael (Joy) Guffey and to granddaughter Sara Guffey of New Castle, Colo. Loving sister to her sisters Jan Smokovich, Judy (George) Smith and Pam (James) Keene, all of Junction City, Kan., and a brother Terry (Sandy) Estes of Westmorland, Kan. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. In addition she leaves behind her beloved dog who was her constant companion, Shotzie.

She is preceded in death by her husband Harold Teufner, granddaughter Mary Guffey and brother William Estes. After growing up in Kansas, she lived in Utica, Mich. for almost 50 years before moving to Colorado in 2009 to be with her son and family.



Before she retired, she worked as a medical assistant focusing on taking care of the elderly and those close to death. Per her wishes, she will be cremated and her ashes will be spread by her family privately in Colorado, Michigan and her beloved Kansas.

She was an avid animal lover, especially of dogs, so the family has asked that in lieu of flowers, please donate in her name to either Colorado Animal Rescue of Glenwood Springs, Colo. at http://www.coloradoanimalrescue.org (866) 947-9173 or the American Society For The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) at http://www.aspca.org (800) 628-0028, which she was a member of.
