Maurice Maury Boyd Allen

Maurice Maury Boyd Allen, of Basalt, died July 7, 2005, in Glenwood Springs. He was 86.Services will be at 7 p.m. Monday, July 11, at Basalt Community United Methodist Church in the Holland Hills area of Basalt, with the Rev. Marie Gasau officiating. Burial has not been scheduled.Mr. Allen was born March 9, 1919, in Pawtucket, R.I., to Lillian Tordoff and Harry Adams Allen. Mr. Allen married his wife, Jacquelin, on July 11, 1964, in Charlottesville, Va.He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II.He was a member of Basalt Community United Methodist Church and was an area resident for 10 years.Mr. Allen worked as an engineer. He was a jazz drummer and a member of the Musician’s Union Local 198 in Providence, R.I.He is survived by his wife; sons Harry Allen and Robert Allen; son-in-law Andrew “Travis” Potter; daughter Sally Potter; by his sister, the Rev. Eleanor Allen, of Hazelton, Pa.; and by granddaughters Hannah Potter, Lillian McIntyre and Alexis McIntyre.A scholarship fund will be announced for memorial contributions.
