Mavis Claire McGuire Snyder passed away just short of her 91st birthday on Sept. 8, 2012, in Glenwood Springs, CO. She was born on the McGuire ranch near Valentine, NE, on Sept. 12, 1921.
She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Larchwood, Iowa, and attended Nettleton College in Sioux Falls, SD. During World War II she worked at Douglas Aircraft and was a member of the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps.
On Oct. 31, 1945, she was united in marriage to Matt H. Snyder at Saint Joseph Cathedral in Sioux Falls, SD. She and Matt had 5 children.
Mavis and her husband retired in 1985 and spent half of the year in Arizona.
Mavis never forgot a birthday or significant family event. Grateful for having shared her life are her husband of 67 years; her sister, Leah; sons, Lee (Susan) Snyder and children, Jessica and Matt of Glenwood; Frank (Michelle) and Tom (Sharon) Snyder of SD; and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, J. Leo and Tressa (Adkins) McGuire; sisters Lois and JoAnn; daughters, Janis and Sue (Reinders) and son-in-law, Chuck.
Visitation and Funeral Mass are being held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Larchwood, this Thursday and Friday.
