Maxine Elizabeth Alcorn of Glenwood Springs died Friday, June 25, 2004, at Valley View Hospital. She was 89.A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, at the First Assembly of God Church, 1123 Pitkin Ave. in Glenwood Springs, with the Rev. Jerry Boschen officiating.Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Monday, June 28, at the Farnum-Holt Funeral Home Chapel, 405 W. 7th St. in Glenwood Springs.Burial will be at Rosebud Cemetery in Glenwood Springs.Maxine was born Feb. 8, 1915, in Rushville, Ind., to Leona (Spacey) and William Wylie Gray.She spent her childhood in Indiana before graduating from Black Forest Country School in Colorado Springs.She married W.J. “Shorty” Alcorn on July 2, 1934. He preceded her in death in 1985 in Glenwood Springs.Mrs. Alcorn was a homemaker who lived in Glenwood Springs most of her life.She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church and the Thistle Sisters.Mrs. Alcorn enjoyed swimming and walking. She was a vivacious, outgoing lady who loved living life to the fullest. She never went anywhere without dressing in red and sparkly clothes. She knew no strangers, would rather give a hug than a handshake and never liked to say goodbye. She was always on the go and traveled to many places. She will be greatly missed by all, and will always be loved by her family and friends.She was preceded in death by her husband and by sisters Blanch Birky and Olive Eppley.Mrs. Alcorn is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Shirley and Jim Brown and Joann and Jim Houg, all of Glenwood Springs; by brother Bill Gray of Park City, Utah; by sisters Billy Fern Paris of Indiana and Willa Cathryn Bailey of Washington; by nephews Dale “Shot” Alcorn of New Castle and Bill Eppley of Salt Lake City; by grandchildren Kiffany, Dennis, Tammie, Jeremy and T.C.; by great-grandchildren Dante, Sascha, Rhiannon, Summer, Levi, Skyler, Cory, Chad, Wyleigh, Cole and Slone; and by seven great-great-grandchildren.Farnum-Holt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
