Maybe Coal Ridge isn’t a great name for a high school

Kelly Lyon

Dear Editor,

We are very proud to get a new high school in Peach Valley. I have two grandsons who will be attending there from Silt.

With all of the tragedies that have happened in the local coal mines and the environmental damage that has occurred from the coal mines, including the Coal Seam Fire around Glenwood Springs, I was very surprised that the school board named it Coal Ridge High School.

I don’t like to be negative, but everyone I have talked to has been very surprised. The name does not fit Silt or New Castle.

Pleas reconsider Coal Ridge High School’s name, and hopefully if other people feel this way, they will write a letter.

Thanks for your consideration.

Kelly Lyon
