McGovern to run unopposed in Ward 3

Staff Report

GLENWOOD SPRINGS – Write-in candidate Chris McGovern will face no opposition in her race for the Ward 3 City Council seat in the Nov. 4 election.

No one else had filed as a write-in candidate by Tuesday’s 5 p.m. deadline, City Clerk Robin Clemons said Wednesday.

McGovern filed to be a write-in candidate after no one from the ward stepped forward to run in this fall’s race.

Ward 3 covers the area east of Grand Avenue between the Colorado River and 13th Street. The current council member from Ward 3, Jean Martensen, chose not to seek re-election.

McGovern owned the downtown clothing store Threads from 1975 to 2000 and now works as a real estate broker in Glenwood. She has lived in Ward 3 since 1985.

The council race for Ward 4 also is uncontested; Bruce Christensen is the only candidate.

Incumbent Don Gillespie is running against Joe O’Donnell for the at-large seat, and Larry Beckwith is challenging incumbent Rick Davis in Ward 1.
