Meadows road repairs still undecided

Glenwood Springs officials are continuing to look at what repairs may be warranted on Wulfsohn Road at Glenwood Meadows. The road is designed to have some dips for drainage purposes, but its ups and downs are greater than anticipated and are creating drivability concerns for the city. This summer, the city began considering whether the road should be repaired, or even torn up and rebuilt. The road is composed of only a thick asphalt layer, rather than a thinner layer over a gravel road base. Such a road structure isn’t unusual elsewhere but is rarely used in Glenwood Springs.City officials don’t think the road is structurally deficient, but are still discussing the matter with contractors, developers and engineers.”We’re trying to determine if the fix is worse than the situation today and what those fixes are,” city planner Andrew McGregor said. The fix could be made more difficult now that Glenwood Meadows is open. Also, winter is coming on, and McGregor noted that paving work is “temperature sensitive.”
