Mean Moose end Titans’ soccer season

Alamosa brought Coal Ridge’s boys soccer season to an end in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs on Wednesday.

Behind goals from Ryan Pina, Juan Mateos and Brandon Medina, the 16th-seeded Mean Moose topped the Titans, 3-2.

Coal Ridge, seeded 17th in the 32-team Class 3A bracket, saw an impressive season come to an end. Though they lost a number of seniors from last year’s team that made it all the way to the state quarterfinals, the Titans finished with an 11-4-1 overall record.

Coal Ridge wrapped the regular season by going 9-0-1 in its last 10 games. The Titans finished third in Region 3 behind both Basalt and Roaring Fork, which advanced to the second round of the playoffs with a 3-2 win over Bruce Randolph on Tuesday.

Basalt, which was scheduled to open the playoffs with a home game against Telluride on Wednesday, pushed that game back to 3:30 p.m. today.

Also in action today is Rifle. The No. 30 Bears will play at No. 3 Kent Denver at 3 p.m.

Alamosa, which improved to 12-2-1 with Wednesday’s win, will face top-seeded Colorado Springs Christian in the second round on Saturday.
