Meeker Sheepdog Trials take place Sept. 9-13

A field of 125 teams of dogs and their handlers will be vying for more than $20,000 in prize money at the Meeker Classic Sheepdog Trials Sept. 9-13 in Meeker.

This is the 23rd year of the trials, which pit man and dog against feisty sheep in a series of handling tests.

In addition, the grounds just outside of Meeker will feature booths with crafts, spinning and saddlemaking demonstrations, American Humane Association’s Rescue Rig, barbecues, a bagpiper and more.

There is a free shuttle from downtown, and parking is limited at the site of the trials.

Tickets will be available at the gate. An adult 5-day pass is $30, or $10 for those aged 65 years and older and those between 8 and 16 are $10. Adult 1-day passes cost $10, or $5 for those 65 and older or those between the ages of 8 and 16.

Kids under 8 get in for free.
